Best Way to Get Computer Audio to Little Dot MK III - Apogee One vs. External DAC?

Hi guys.

1st post here and I have been learning a great deal. I use my computer as my guitar rig and I run the guitar into the machine (4ghz Mac Pro) via an Apogee One.  I have been using the headphone output on the Apogee and it sounds good, but I'm ready to take it to the next level. I am going to purchase Denon D2000 cans. I want a tube headphone amp and the Little Dot MKIII fits my budget well. My question is how to best get the audio into the Little Dot? The Apogee has a pretty good DAC, but it only has a headphone out. I could use a 1/4" to RCA Y Cable, but that doesn't seem ideal. Would that work or should I get an external DAC? If the answer is the latter, whats the best USB - DAC I can get for <$200 (ideally <$100).

Thanks!

If the Apogee 1 is anything like the original Apogee dac, I would definitely get a 1/4 to RCA adapter cable of appropriate length.  Don't spend a fortune on the cable.  I had an apogee and used it as a dac with the brealout cable, and it worked well.  I suspect it will be as good aro better than anything else you will find for $200.  Hopefully others with more direct experience than mine will weigh in to help out.
