What Soundcard/DAC/Amp should I get with my RX700/AD700

Hi guys

Im sorta new here, but looking to get a new set of cans - JVC RX700 or Audio Technica's AD700. I also have a set of Logitech Z5500 speakers at home if that helps.

But at the same time, i will need to upgrade my onboard sound card. I am running an ok motherboard Gigabyte X58-UD3R with decent onboard.

I am looking at the Xonar D2X or Essence ST/STX for gaming/music/movie on my PC, and was wondering what other options do I have..?  Do i need to get a dedicated sound card or can I go for a DAC/Amp route like FIIO E5 ? Would prefer budget around $150-200 brand new or second hand. Should I also get a Asus Xonar H6 extension card if i can get it for cheap?

I was thinking of getting an Essence ST combo with Xonar H6 extension card.

Please let me know what options I have. Really want to get the best sound quality from my setup

E5 is only an amp, E7 is an amp/DAC (same crappy amp as the E5), though I think the Xonar ST(X) is probably your best option.

I think a used E7+E9 combo falls within your budget, as well as the Audinst MX-1 and a few other amp/DACs, I think.
