"Argh, my earphone tip has come off in my ear!!"

Thread Starter

This happened to me a few days ago.  Fortunately, I work in a lab with plenty of very fine tweezers, so my colleague was able to recover the rogue tip.

But I can imagine if this happened on a train or plane it would be seriously unpleasant and possibly dangerous.

Anyone have an horror stories?

Sometimes when I shower, water gets in my eye.

One of the many reasons why I don't take showers anymore.

Oh ic.

I thought your preference stemmed from your fear that the tip would dislodge inside your ear.beerchug.gif

The first set of IEMs I ever bought (~10 years ago), the rubber tip came off in my ear the first time I wore them. I had listened to them for all of two minutes and was taking it out to try to get a more comfortable fit. Luckily it came out pretty easily without having to beg a passerby on the street to help (I was in the middle of Harvard Square). I threw them away because so-tight-it-won't-come-out-of-my-ear was the only tip size it came with, and the store didn't accept returns except to replace it with the same item if the original was defective. It was another 5-6 years before I tried another IEM.

Cool bigsmile_face.gif  My parents live a few miles from Manhattan so I visit NYC a lot as well - I was there last weekend. I guess we move in the same geographic circles.

I guess we should organize a cambridge can jam :D (at least for the alliteration of it all)

This happened to me with the ADDIEMs.  I could take them out of my ear though with my fingers.  It's annoying though.  When I went to get some new tips from the Apple Store, the Genius said that they were supposed to come off :p  They did replace the whole set though, so I got a new set of ear tips and IEMs...  WIN.

This has actually happened quite often--my ear canals must like tips a lot. I've become a pro at taking tips off with my fingers. biggrin.gif

I would put that down to the perfect tip for a "perfect" seal I suppose. I would presume it is mostly due to using other manufacturers tips than tips supplied by the IEM manufacturer.

Many tips fit but on X IEM but some are definitely snugger than others.

Must be fairly scary when that happens.

As a kid we enjoyed shooting oruselves with BB guns, the little round plastic yellow bullet was somehow shot into my ear from a distance, it was retrieved at the ER in a few seconds though :P

for in ears I use the "L" silicones though, impossible for them to get stuck up there.

sadly i have had this happen to me numerous times...once i actually had to go to the doctor to have them removed because they had lodged themsleves in a way that was impossible to get to...it was a very uncomfortable thing to say the least....i actually use the large P comply tips more now because they are easier to get out should they come off because they are larger...if i am going to use the smaller tips i will only use them on my etymotics which have a far tighter fit and are difficult to remove.....it is and has been a problem for me for some time
