HE-300 full size dynamic headphones - Page 3

If you have another HE product, you can always swap out the cable, if you are unhappy with it, but my impressions were made with the Canare cable, so that says a lot.

Any comparisons with the 300 and hd650?

My HE-300 arrived today. These are very light as compared with the HE6 or HE500, love the color! They are burning in, for now I leave you with pictures.

Hope you like them, mine already have 26 hours of burn-in, sure look forward to the 100 hour mark. BTW, I do listen to them while they are burning in, I am listening to them right now (Nicole Henry).

How to they compare to the k701/702? anyone who's heard them both shed some light? I'm currently deciding on a headphone around $300 and I was almost set for the k701 but then I see this.

Ya I think I just hit the 24 hour mark and I'm listening to them at this moment also.  Bruce Hornsby- Mandolin Rain.  So far I'm enjoying them.  =)

Sorry Win I can't comment on those HP's.  I can tell you that the He-300 do sound good.  There are a few reviews.  Take a look at Headphone addict, he wrote a good one.

As of Noon on September 4th I have about 105 hours of burn in on the HiFiMAN HE300. This unit sports the stock velour pads and for cable I am using the OCC Balanced Cable that is stock with the HE6. The main cans I will be using as a comparison point are the Sennheiser HD580 with a balanced cable made using a Neutrik 4-Pin plug and Mogami 2534 cable. This cable was made by FallenAngel and I paid about $75 USD, since the HE6 OCC Balanced cable retails for $80 USD it seems as a fair comparison.

I will not make a long comparison or evaluation, nor do I wish to make the reader wait. So, the end result is the HE300 is in my opinion, and with my music/gear a much better sounding can than the Sennheiser HD580.

For those who may ask/wonder why I did not use an HD600, well I do not have one. However I have owned the HD600 on two separate occasions and IMO the HD580 sounded exactly as the HD600. Some may ask/wonder why I did not use the HD650, well I do not like the sound presentation of the HD650 since I consider it to have way too much bass. BTW, I have tried about 12-15 aftermarket cables on the HD580/600/650 and I still did not like the sound of the HD650.

What exactly do I like in the HE300 over the Sennheiser?

  1. Wider and deeper soundstage.
  2. More extended highs w/o shrillness.
  3. More balanced presentation w/o emphasizing a region of the frequency over another.
  4. There is more air between the notes.
  5. The decay is longer.
  6. Easier to place the instruments.
  7. There is a much higher level of clarity and detail.
  8. Overall a much more musical and engaging presentation.
  9. It is less fatiguing over extended listening sessions.

As you can see I much prefer the HE300 over the HD580. Thanks for taking the time to read this impressions.

And I didn't have to pay any custom fees!

First impressions are on the headphone's external design: clamping force is not as tight as with the HE-4 which makes it much more comfortable but now I can't move around much with it or they would fell down. Pads are at least circular now although the is a pretty big gap between the pad and the cup because the plastic bit surrounding the pad is skewed. More later when I come home from work.

I think I'm keeping these.  gs1000.gif  I totally forgot my wife's hd555 has the 1/8 adapter and while listening to the he-300 with the stock cable it came with I glanced over to her hp and saw the adapter.  I then though about putting the black dragon cable onto my he-300 and try to see if the adapter would fit.  After I got it on I plugged it into my laptop and tried playing some applelossless music and all I can say is I don't feel like the music is in my face at the moment!  I feel like the mids backed off a little and everything sounds more balanced.  I can turn up the volume without cringing from the highs and the mids!!!  I just have a big grin on my face of satisfactory....basshead.gif  I'll be keeping these!

Nice!  Enjoy!  I prefer it with my black dragon cable rather than the stock cable!  I still wanna read a comparison of the He-300 vs He-4beyersmile.png  please.

I'll leave music on for 8 hours for it to burn in a little. I am using a HE-6 cable for both HE-4 and HE-300 so the comparison should be as fair as possible. Both cables are also fully burnt in.
