The Sony 5400 is discontinued and I would not bank on replacement parts. For a 2 channel system the Marantz SA8004 is terrific. I have zero regrets and I have heard and owned more expensive players such as the 2K Classe CDP.5 and this one is better and does everything I want it to do and more.

A dealer told me that Sony XA5400ES is close to his cheaper Esoteric players and there was a sound difference between his 100 and 240 volt players. What about Marantz Ken Ishiwata players ? Some of them are less than $2000.

No, it has not been discontinued. You are misinformed. The player is sold exclusively now from brick and mortar stores. Sony Style directs customers to their local Sony HT installer. The player has an MSRP of $1499.99. Many sources for this product, nevertheless, advertise it for sale on the Internet. The player has a 5 years parts and labor warranty. I have never had an issue with parts or service for Sony ES or Pro Audio. One of my circa 1995 Sony PCM-7010F DAT recorders recently needed a new circuit board for time-code reader. Sony re-built the unit for a flat rate, and now it's back to running like new.

No your wrong. Go to the audio asylum and there is a comment in the high rez section regarding the Sony 5400 by the regional Sony manager. It has been discontinued and is available from people who have excess stock. It also is not being manufactured anymore and if you want one so bad go to TheNerd.net they have 16 in stock for 806.00 The stores that have them are in stock items only so get your facts straight.

SCD-XA5400ES availability
Below is a message I have received from the nothern California Sony Rep on the availability of SCD-XA5400ES
From the Sony Rep:
I sent some emails and received some guidance on the 5400, per our discussion at the California audio show. The player is no longer being manufactured, but inventories are available. The Sony online store is showing back-order- http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&partNumber=SCDXA5400ES - but there are some in the warehouse, as well as many with distributors and ES dealers. Currently, all the fiscal 2010 BDP product also play SACD. I apologize for the EOL status of the 5400 and myself and others have communicated the popularity of the model.

Not being manufactured does not mean discontinued. Production is about orders for product, period. Since the 5400 came out it has been shown on Sony's web site to be back ordered on many occasions, but not discontinued, such as the SCD-XA9000ES.

LMAO! Now that's funny. You really should pull the trigger. Since it's "not being manufactured", people who have stock left will be selling them at discounted prices. I think it's a very good sounding player. It has it's flaws just like anything thing else, but I think you will be satisfied with how it sounds.
