Portable listening is all about the experience. Of course SQ is a huge part of it, but don't discount usability, size, available accessories, reliability, "bugginess" (or lack of) etc. I love my Apple iPod Touch 3dr Gen 64gb. I did a head to head against the Cowon D2+ (FLAC-ALAC, same phones, flat EQ) and the Touch was way better, imo. While there are differences in SQ between products made by the same manufacturer, make sure you consider all your options, and don't hate any one brand because others do that. I use my Touch with my Grado SR325i's, and the EQu app, and I'm telling you, it rocks! (well, in my case it jazzes :-)  And the interface is second to none! I said it months ago, and I say it again, this is a great combo, and as far as overall experience, it is a solid performer!

Just my .02 cents.

Really? I wouldn't have thought so. Of course, with a classic, you'd have to have some decent sized pockets too....it wouldn't fit if you wore nut-hugger jeans....lol.wink_face.gif

yeah that lack of formats is the only thing that irritates me about ipods.

by "easy to use within pocket" i was refering to the hardware buttons for stop/play/previous/next. I dont have to take it out of my pocket to do those actions. I know the J3 has the buttons too but the build quality on it just makes me very very wary. I know the ipod has so many types and models of case that I can easily find one that can put up with just about anything I throw at it whereas with the J3 i'd have to baby it all the time. It was the same way with my ipod touch which, unfortunately, was stolen. I had to keep it in its own pocket all the time scared to death that something would break the screen and have apple charge me 250 for a "warranty fix"

BTW LegendaryLvl1, Let me know how the J3 holds up and how it si. You hav a bunch of the headphones that I was looking into for future purchase and i'd just like to say "screw you for being able to afford those" lol. I really am interested in how those sound, though. I'm looking for something that is balanced but something in which you can feel the bass when you are meant to. when I say "feel the bass" i mean, for example with jazz, you can sometimes feel those deep plucked string bass notes, with some electronic ambient music the bass is kind of off in the distance and you arent supposed to have your world rocked by it, yet still with rap and hip hop the bass is supposed to shake your very core. I'm looking for a headphone that is "balanced" enough to be able to bring those types of sound out. I was considering various audiotechnica headphones but those LCD-2's might just deserve a looking into if I ever go real crazy

LOL! Ya got me. And thanks for the opinion of my opinion.

To correct my math:

1) Just my 2 cents.

...or...

2) Just my .02 dollars.

:-)

After trying about 4 different cases for the Touch, I settled on the OtterBox. It is very solid and protects the unit extremely well.

The otterbox case was kind of what I was looking at, what with it being waterproof and ridiculously durable. The only problem with that case that I had was the size of it, not to mention making it fully waterproof incl. headphones costs even more. I was considering first a full body shield such as ghost armor or something, and then on top of that I wanted to find a leather case with at least ABS plastic internals if not steel. The case might be something i DIY since my friend has open access to a an industrial grade CNC machine.

Wow! That would be a serious case. I figure with the Otterbox, my Touch will become outdated before it ever gets damaged. I also tend to be ever aware of how I handle it, but then again, it's not like I use it while working construction or something. The only complaint I have is that with most cases, including the OtterBox, is that phone jacks with anything other than very small barrels will not fit. I keep a six inch adapter/extension handy for that reason.
