Burson HA-160D Impressions from the Burson Loaner Program at Headfonia - Page 3

Looking forward to read your impressions.

I found the LCD-2s (r1 & r2) to have great synergy with the 160D. I still do.

Thanks for the picture, Loevhagen.

I'm looking forward to trying the HA-160D; It's a privilege to have the opportunity to review such a renowned piece of equipment.

I'd also love to try the 160 as an amp from the DAC of the Lavry DA10 and it looks like I might need a coax cable for that - does anyone have a spare decent coax cable that they could lend me for a week or so?

Use the one supplied by Burson? I'll make sure to put it in the box to you ;)

My loaner HA-160D arrived yesterday :) It's beautiful. I love the new brushed aluminium look.

Enjoy it! and tell us how it sounds ;-)

All going to plan, the HA-160D will be with me by the end of the coming week.

I'm grateful for the chance to hear how it makes recordings sound; thanks again to Burson and Headfonia for making this happen. :-)

I'll keep you posted when/if I have news. They should come pick it up within the next 2 hours.

I received the Burson about an hour ago; that was fast (around 18 hours from Belgium to UK).

The Burson's on my desk and impressions will soon be posted.

Hi Loevhagen,

Which Amp do you prefer for the LCD-2's? The Burson or the Violectric?

I am looking to upgrade and they are my 2 main options...

Thanks,

I've pretty much finished writing my HA-160D impressions now and will add some photos to them before posting.

I bet you were up all night Windsor listening to the thing :P

Since this a Burson thread I'll be brief.

Burson: The LCD-2 pairs magnificent with the 160D. The Burson´s stepped volume control makes small ticks when adjusted when using the High Gain output. For some, thats not to like. I personally can (barely) live with it. The Burson runs more than lukewarm. Surprisingly hot while used. I´m still quite surprised of that. Not piping hot, but more than you would expect from the big box.

Violectric: The most "boring" amp of the two. Boring in terms of looks. The Burson looks like $$$ compared to it. The Burson runs hot, the V200 does not. So, what is it with the V200? It is 100% sturdy. Everything with it is just solid. The non-stepped volume control is a feature I like and no volume clicks. The XLR/RCA sockets are mechanically rock solid. My Kimber Hero cables with RCA WBT is tight as glue on the V200, but quite loose on the Burson. I also find the gain dip switches quite handy for other sources than my preferred DAC.

I enjoy the Burson, but keep coming back to the V200. If I HAD to sell either 160D or V200 today; I´d sell the Burson. As you understand, not because it is significant inferior to the V200, but my heart lies with the V200.

I perceive the sound from the V200 is a tad less coloured than the Burson. For some headphones, that's nice and for others not. Your choice (as always) must be seen in conjuction with the rest of the system and preferences. Music (genre, audio quality) is far more different than the isolated sound differences between the V200 and the 160D.

Looking forward to Windsor's impression of the 160D. :)

Thread Starter

Loevhagen try using the low gain jack for a while, the coloration comes down quite a bit vs the high gain jack from what I have observed.
