Matrix Quattro amp: unboxing and initial impressions - Page 5

I'll try to get some answers for you as soon as I get all my stuff (amp, cables from tam and cable from q) so I can run balanced from amp to dac as well as unbalanced.

I'm VERY interested myself, to say the least. Wonder if I'll hear anything at all difference wise. Many claims that it's bs, but I'll wait and make up my own mind about that when everything arrives.

Well...in this case the Quattro should be a good value for the money, I mean if was $299, and $250 on ebay I'll say this is a great value for the price. happy_face1.gif

I think someone in the Quattro DAC thread has both units and is saying they are very comparable.

thank you so much im looking foward to your response.  I emailed tam about this and he says its a good way to run it even with an unbalanced source.  From what ive read its the extra power that helps more than anything since your doubling it.

having been with this HP hobby for just months, here goes yet another wallet-threatening curiosity  >:(, i "want" to experience a fully balanced setup so, reading from this thread and the mini-i thread i find the following combo as cost efficient for my HD650 and HD600 HPs...

DAC: matrix mini-i ($310) http://tamaudio.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=55
AMP: matrix quattro + remote ($404) http://tamaudio.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=97
XLR: cable ($100) http://tamaudio.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=101
Senn cable: ($120) http://tamaudio.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=99

for $934 shipped

question, will the mini-i "bottleneck" the setup? what a hobby this is, digging deeper and deeper into bankruptcy or organ selling...

hope i'm hijacking the thread in any way ;D ;D ;D
i just withdrawed from my Lyr order so i'm now exploring this "balancing" act

or will i be better off buying Lyr and forget about the planned balanced set-up?

all i have to say is wow!

I just hooked up my quattro and im flawed.  So much more open and much more clear compared to the amp on the stx.  Im running the RCA outs from the stx to the quattro.  I almost thought the amp was broke when i first plugged it in the fuse wasnt set right.

Running a balanced setup from the amp to the HD-650s, or just stock 1/4" plug into the Quattro? If so, have you ever heard the m-stage, and can compare them?

I'm guessing I'll recieve my Quattro sometime next week, but I don't really know when my balanced cable from Q-audio (Steve is pure awesome to deal with there, by the way) will hit, so god knows. What I can do when I get it (if I don't have the new cable by then) I can at least compare balanced / unbalanced from DAC to Amp (Cambridge DacMagic -> Matrix Quattro) and compare Quattro to the M-stage in general :) Going to have to jot down some points on a notebook or something - really looking forward to that :)

right now its hooked up in solo mode(unbalanced) i do however plan on getting the balanced cable when i hear some feedback with running a unbalanced source. Seems to really shine in the mids and jazz playing.  I havnt heard the m-stage unfortunately but the general consensus is from tam and people on the forum it sounds a bit better but nothing crazy.  Me personally i got it for the upgrade path it leaves me by going balanced.
