Ipod Classic?

Hello Head-Fi, as you can tell I am very new. My current setup is HD 555's and Poweramp on my Droid X. My phone can only carry roughly 13gigs of music, which is not a lot at all. I love the luxury of being able to carry around my whole library on the go. So I was looking to invest in to a high capacity player. I know some of you might recommend Cowon X7, but after having this Droid X for a while, I don't want a player THAT big.

So this leads me to an Ipod Classic. The last Ipod I owned was a first generation Ipod touch. When I had it, I was only using some cheap Denon buds. I am now looking for a full upgrade with my setup ( Portable source, portable amp, headphones, and LOD ). I was thinking about the 5G Classic. I would upgrade the HD to 120gig if I bought one. I would most likely install Rockbox on it then because most of my music is FLAC. Can anyone comment on this idea? Would it be worth it or would converting the FLAC to Apple Lossless and buying a new 160gig Classic be better?

Also, I am not very knowledgeable in portable amps and headphones. I want to upgrade from the HD 555s and I was looking at Grados SR 80-i or M50s. In short, I am just looking for some advice on the setup. Thank you in advance, Head-Fi. Happy listening

But where will you get a 5th gen ipod video? Unless its used ofcourse. But if it is with portable amp and LOD the latest classic 160gb is worth it.

It is used, I have a friend selling me one for 60 dollars. Is there a program for Windows where I could convert a whole library of FLAC at once?

This. Are you sure that the condition of the DAP itself is good? Shake it around abit, see if you can hear any loose components.

Let's put it this way. Do you think you'll be able to tell the difference between a lossless file - and a lossless file?

Google is your friend here. It can't be that hard to type: FLAC CONVERTER.

Is there any SQ difference in the 5G/5.5G ipod Classics to the new 7G ones?

There supposedly are (can't say for sure since I've never tried the earlier models). The thinking is that since different DAC chips are used, the sound produced is different. At any rate, the 5/5.5 are apparently better than the newer models.

If you decide on getting a Classic, and your friend is selling one in good working condition at $60, I don't see what you have to lose.

If it is in good condition then $60 would be a good price for it. I just bought a used iPod classic on ebay and couldn't find anything less than $80 for a good cond 80gb model.
