How is the DJ1 compared to the HI 580? Sound-wise and comfort-wise.

And Optimus, you're talking about the DJ1 or DJ1 Pro?

Yeap i am talking about DJ1 and not the Pro's because i think the Pro's are huge and i didn't like that...

They are exactly the same sound-wise as they have the same drivers..

Only the looks and the coiled cable is different from 580.

I don't know about comfort over 580 cause i haven't tried the 580 yet but  DJ1 is more comfortable than my m50 and i think the pleather pads are a bit softer  than m50's.

The drivers are the same, but the pro series have a bigger can, and this why they have a bigger sound stage.

Thats my kind of trance. Stuff rolling out from anjuna beats and armada is the good stuff. Of course other records are good too but those are the main to me. the dt990 should be perfect for you. To me its not about finding something that just works , its about finding the right fit

Arrrrrrgh..... I guess with the pro900s, I'd never have to upgrade again...

And how the DJ1 handles vocals? Is it more "in your face" or more laid back?

Also, is there a good open alternative in the same price range?

I intend to buy new headphones to my sister (and the E7), and she likes trance (especially the ones with vocal).

Τhat is true about soundstage but i find DJ1's soundstage also quite good and that huge Pro cans are not for my head.

That's why i didn't get them..

I think vocals sound nice and detailed with DJ1..

I usually do not listen to trance with vocals but I when i tried some songs from Whitney Houston,Celine Dion,Toni Braxton  i was left speachless.

If you post some tracks from u tube with what your sister like to listen to i could check them out and tell you more...wink.gif

It would something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7pOY-ZdXQI

And how does the DJ1 sound with just the E7 as DAC? Are they easy to drive or they need an amp?

Even though the quality of the song was not optimal her voice was clear with the right amount of echo in some parts..

The bass was tight/full down in the low end and the song sounded very organic and airy..

E7 is a nice match as an amp,i definitely keep it attached to my J3..

It makes bass fuller, tighter and strong and overall it gives a powerful fullness to the sound..

I haven't tested it as a dac yet because i usually listen from my xonar when i hook them on my pc...

I believe an amp is a must have so as to benefit more from these headphone..

Thread Starter

Just like to update this thread-

In the end, settled with an AudioGD Compass DAC/Amp and a pair of ULTRASONE Pro900s. Using a parametric eq to eliminate the sibilance, and TB_Isone to expand the soundstage.

Highly recommend this setup!!!

Thanks for the help. :)

(btw, My M50s are for sale ph34r.gif)
