As a follow up - does anyone know if there are inline transformers (preferably non-coloring) - that will condition a high impedance signal down to a lower level - essentially soak up the extra juice (is it as simple as serial resistors in-line?). I know I've seen such a think for low impedance mics going into higher jacks - but not the other way around.
