Modifying my Grado 225I's In a different way.

Thread Starter

So I have received a new pair of Grado 225I's and a E7 FiiO DAC/amplifier.

I'l be making a review in a couple weeks of use but my gripe right now is the cord. I want it smaller and I want it detachable.

So here is a nice blueprint I have made:

Not sure how that looks to you but basically I want it to work like this:

1 stereo cord can be plugged into either side, making it so you only have 1 cord. No Y splits. The wires go to both sides so no matter what side you put it in it will power both speakers.

Now I am NOT sure if this is going to work, has anybody else done something like this?

The only problem I forsee is that the electricity is drained through the extra wiring. Although it wouldn't go to that large of an extent but I'm not totally sure.

The only problem i'm having is... What cabling to use??? What is the best affordable cabling that I can solder and what 3.5 MM Inputs and Output peices should I use and where can I get them?

I think you would be better of just making it go into 1 side of the headphones, it would be 1 less wire crossing the head band and alot less complication inside the earcups. Another thing to consider is that Grados don't have alot of space inside the cups to work, and no where to really hide the cable along the headband, so they would be kind of oddly sticking out.

It has been done before, in the "post your grado mod" thread, a guy recable it and made it detachable, one sided but with the option to plug the cable in any cup and still get sound from both sides, kind of complex but pretty cool.

It's been done before, I wouldn't worry about channel imbalance, Ultrasones and AKG's do just fine with that setup
