HTPC, TV, PS3. SPEAKERS

Thread Starter

Hi,

So finally I bought myself an appartment, and even though I haven't moved in yet and i haven't even started to renovate the place. My first thought is ofcourse my HTPC setup! (I know how to prioritize!)

So in sound way i've mostly been fooling around with headphones as well I've been living at home in an appartment so speakers was never an option. But now I'm trying to find not to expensive speakers, and a nice receiver for them. The reason I actually created this thread was because if I build a HTPC with a mini-itx card and HDMI out, will that be enough for my receiver? Or do I need to put in a really sweet soundcard in the HTPC as well??

I actually have no clue about this but I'm guessing I don't but I want to be sure before I start building it:).

Also any tips on speakers for a homecinema setup would be nice even though this is the computer audio place. I'm not sure if I should go with 5.1 or 2.1 or what I should get. It's both for music and movie but I don't want to buy a cheap 5.1 setup and get the lack of sound when listening to music.

My Budget for speakers+receiver is probably around 500-1000euro, I can't really see myself spending more then that today.

My Headphone setup atm is a pair of inear Monster Turbine and a pair of ultrasone DJ-1 (HFI-580).

Thanks!!

by mini itx card did you mean the motherboard? I doubt a mini itx motherboard will have audiophile quality sound in them but they are not too horrible, but depending on your cpu's integrated graphics, you might want to use the only PCI slot you have on your motherboard for a gpu, because most integrated graphics can't handle blu ray play back. You can try something external for the sound, like a usb soundcard or usb dac. Giving you a result like this:  HTPC-> external soundcard/dac -> receiver -> speakers
