Need new speakers but don't know anything about them!

I've done a lot of reading around and yet am still devoid of any knowledge regarding headphones.

 

I'm currently living on my iPod Hi-Fi, which is nice but I think it's time for an upgrade.

 

I'll mainly be listening to music, and watching movies through a PC. I am currently only using the inbuilt soundcard in my mobo (not great). 

 

I really have no idea what to get. I'm thinking something for around £200-£300 [$300-$500] (is that mid-range?). Help?

Not alot you can upgrade with 300 from the ipod Hifi. They're pretty decent.

 

I guess the generic recommendation here would be Audioengine A5 or the Aktimate Mini (highly recommended)

 

take a look around for them.

It isn't *terrible*, but the fact that both speakers and the subwoofer are so close makes me sad.

Get the behringer TRUTH B2030A, don't dismiss them because of the brand name. They've got good directivity and are pretty neutral.

The behringer TRUTH B2030A are active so the don't need an amp.

I know this is a terrible thing to ask, but will I be able to get enough sound out of them to be heard in a room full of loud talking people?

The Aktimate Mini.. YES..  easily..

so would the Audioengine 5
