Good luck to the kids. They have an exciting time ahead discovering new music to listen to. One advantage we old farts have though is that we lived through that glorious period of the 60's to the early 70's before the bean counters and accountants took over the industry. In today's times would there be the enormous leap of faith taken to produce Solti's Ring Cycle or the then emerging trend to give the public complete cycles of Mahler, Bruckner et al.
I recall a radio interview with Ry Cooder being interviewed by Alexis Korner and Ry made it clear that if he was starting out at the time of the interview he would not have been signed by a label.
The industry needs maverick outfits who will 'take a chance'. Where or who are today's Elektra Records. Is there another John Culshaw out there?.
I think not.
