iPod classic broke - need a worthy successor - PLEASE HELP! - Page 2

Several have predicted that the 'dedicated music player' will disappear entirely, replaced by cheap mobile phones with a $5 DAC chip that sounds as good as 90% of the population 'need' - hasnt happened yet, but that doesnt mean it wont happen. Many of us can remember when you bought a dedicated sound card for your PC as a matter of course - now onboard does the job for most, including casual gamers - we overestimate the allure of 'hi-fi' sound in an arena custom made for DSP.

As long as there are people who spend several hundred bucks on earphones, there will be the demand for good sounding players..

Using your phone as a music player also sucks the battery life out of it. Whereas many dedicated MP3 have vastly better battery life. No point having a phone if its always out of battery when you need it!

That said phones these days have easy charging and battery packs available.
