No PCM 1704 - DACs from audio-gd anymore? Why?

Hi everybody!

I noticed, that Audio-GD has nomore PCM 1704 - based DAC on the website. Back in December, there were a couple of them available, and they described the PCM 1704 - chip still as the most musical DAC-Chip available (even compared to the newer Sabre 32 chips). Their flagship featured 8 pieces of PCM 1704 - chips!

I'm a bit confused about the designs changing so quickly...

Any ideas, why they stopped selling PCM 1704 - DACs? Others are still convinced of them:

like for example

http://coemaudio.com.au/Sources/DACs/293/

or:

http://www.resolutionaudio.com/cantata.html

(this one is expensive but has been rated as simply and clearly the best DAC ever made by one of the major german hifi - magazines)

Cheers!

We order 4k pcs PCM1704U-K from TI in Oct. 2010.

They should delivery to us in April 2011 .

At May TI tell us they can't produce version K and asked change to normal version but we refuse.

Later they asked me change to PCM1794 we still refuse and final we cancel the order .

Dear Kingwa,

thank you for that clarification! So I consider myself lucky that I still got one of your (really great sounding!) PCM 1704 - based DACs!

Just for my curiosity: What makes the K-version different from the standard version?

Best regards

PCM-63K is dead, now 1704 dies... is the High End in sources dying? :)

But I'm extremely happy with my poor sigma-delta-PCM1792-based Cary 306 SACD

So I guess that is the end of PCM1704U-K based DACs, at least for Audio-GD. Time to look on the used market.

There are still superb DAC chips being made, especially in chips intended for bluray decoding. With time I'm sure a new champion will arise...
