Hi,
I'm looking at getting DT990's both for producing and enjoying music, mostly house, trance, and electro. I already have studio monitors, but I'd like some nice headphones for when I need to be quieter (living in a single in a college dorm, so open back headphones are totally fine).
My main issue is that I just don't know what I need to power these headphones, since I've found on Head-Fi a lot of info on what amps subjectively sound good, but little on what electrical specs are actually important in determining whether or not an amp is powerful enough. (If there's some good articles on this... please link me :P)
So, I DJ and currently have a DJ-oriented DAC, the Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 (http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/producer/komplete-audio-6/?page=1906). It's a solid state USB card that outputs 24/96 and has 3 pairs of balanced TRS outs and 1 headphone jack (as well as several ins). Would the line outs of my current sound card produce enough power to satisfy either of these cans, and would it be at all a good sounding experience?
If not, then what amps would you recommend to me? I'm not looking for anything particularly fancy or stellar, probably a fairly low-end desktop amp that would do either of these phones some justice. Something with a low profile in terms of space would be best. Would I want to grab a dedicated DAC/amp for that purpose, or would it be legit to grab an amp and route the converted signal from my Komplete Audio 6 and work with that? I have an idea of getting a Fiio E9 and routing that through the line outs of my Komplete Audio 6, but I don't know how good of an idea that is :\
My budget is probably, at most, $250 on a DAC/amp, but I'd rather go lower hahah.
This whole amp business confuses me a bit... hahah, you've probably been through this before. Thanks!
