Ah, the god old days where everything is mechanical.

Just maintaining such a device would be a hobby in itself due to the massive amount of parts in there. Maybe you'll need to make your own parts.

Imagine a smaller version of the Differential Engine! And I can barely operate a slide rule...

some serious dedication in that job/design. blink.gif

That would be a nice addition to my collection.  The only mechanical calculator I have is an addiator.

I read that 1970 there was 14000 people building, serving and selling these. All gone in 1972.

This is how a DAC should look in the insides for me to shell out 60k for it. Then I would consider it cheap lol

Wow, back in the olden days, wish everything was still like that

Same here. Funny thing is we were all watching stuff like Star Trek, and dreaming about the future. It was supposed to keep on getting better.

I think there's a single cylinder (iirc) piston engine or something in my school workshop.

It's about 30 years old, really small, but it's hooked up to some high tech stuff to measure

temperature and everything.

There's a cross-section model of an engine that you find on

older lorries (the one where you have to rotate the handle to start the engine lol).

Neat stuff.

/offtopic

The Singapore primary school maths curriculum used to have a section where they teach us how to use the abacus lol.

Calculators was only allowed in secondary school and we wrote in pencil till we were about 9, then the teacher would

let people with acceptable handwriting to write in blue pen.

Right - the future isn't what it used to be.
