Connecting headphones directly to sound card VS through Cheap 2.1 speakers?

The sound card is at the back of my computer, so it is troublesome connecting my headphones there. I have a low end 2.1 speaker system with a headphone jack at the front, it also lets me control the volume of my music easily. However I wonder if it affects the sound quality to pass audio through the speakers or is it the same as connecting directly to the sound card. Any thoughts?

Ever heard of something called an extension cable? wink.gif

I switched from a system like that (Titanium HD -> Logitech speaker volume controller -> Pro 900) to an amp with a volume control on it (Titanium HD -> E9 -> Pro 900) using a high quality EMI shielding cable, and the only differences I noticed (apart from those caused by the amp of course) was no more popping sounds (happened regularly before) and no more static noise (before, when I had the volume controller turned up high and no audio was playing there would be a low volume high tone noise, it wasn't audible during playback though). I bet the low quality of the logitech cable was the course of the static noise and popping, but I can't say for sure. If you have any of those problems I would recommend you get a high quality extension cable and see if that works better.
