STX and P6T Deluxe MB with Radeon HD5850 Sapphire

I have my Sennheiser HD448 plugged into my P6T Motherboard. I often listen to music when others are watching TV. I would like to install the STX but am concerned about how that will affect my video card connections. I have a HDMI cable from the video card to my Pioneer SC-07 receiver so I can watch video and listen to music from my PC. This uses the DAC’s in the receiver and it sounds very good. Will installing the STX disable my audio out from the HDMI port on my video card?

No it will no just set the music program to output thru the sound card instead of the hdmi of your video card.

Thanks, sounds logical and simple, now that you have explained it.  Guess I should find an STX online and order it. Any suggestions on where to get one at a fair price? J & R looked good.

J & R appears to be the cheapest well-known retailer that came up on a google search. If you want to save a couple bucks you can check this listing:

Have you considered the Xonar ST? Assuming you have both PCI and PCI express ports available on your motherboard, ST may be a better option for you. It produces overall better sound output, partly because it has a better clock than the STX (less jitter). It also supports the H6 7.1 expansion card (if you want analog connections for surround sound).

It's been an ongoing debate in my head. ST or STX? From what I have read the ST is considered bright, some have even said too bright. I enjoy my Pioneer and JBL speakers, which usually gets described as warm. The same with the STX. So I thought I would go with the STX. I'm not much of a audiophile and seriously doubt I'll ever get a set of Sens' HD800's. Although after tweaking my headset settings and liking the results I am curious about how far I can take this on my PC. And with my 7.1 audio system I think the ST with H6 would also be a bit redundant.
