Hey.

I'm currently using AudioEngine A2 and AudioTechinca m50. My sound card is Asus Xonar DX. 

The problem with it is that I can't connect both and switch between them, instead, I have to manually switch cables. Therefore, i'm looking for an alternative.

I'm 70% about music, and 30% gaming/movies. I want to keep having the possibility to use EAX/DS3D when gaming.

 

Here is what I thought about:

I'm soon buying a new computer and the motherboard has a Realtek codec that is EAX /DS3D compatible(according to Realtek site). It also has an S/PDIF out.

If I will buy something like the "E-MU 0204 USB"(but that has S/PDIF in), will I be able to use EAX/DS3D when the motherboard S/PDIF out connected to my DAC S/PDIF in and the DAC connected to my HP/speakers? I'm pretty sure if I connect it via USB it bypass the codec so it won't be possible, but is it different with S/PDIF?

 

If it is possible and will work, can you recommend an  "E-MU 0204 USB" alternative that has Optical S/PDIF in?

My budget is about 150$(can stretch it if it worth it, but prefer to pay as little as I can - i.e. looking for best price/performance).
