HiFiMAN RE-272 Review - Page 23

Yep the last two, now you've said it I'm also wondering what will happen if they break. But I guess if they will replace it with something equal/better (RE600) then there will be no harm done right? I'm wondering what your findings will be with the 262's vs the 272's, please let us know. :)

They'll replace them with another RE-272, as they did mine - assuming.   I guess they kept some in stock for warranty services?

the pair i bought back in september 2011 came with a 3-year warranty so that means i have almost 1 more year on my back

i will definitely post some impressions here when i receive the 262

for people like us who are short on cash and can not shell out 500-1000 $  for iems , hifiman is doing us a great service by producing very nice iems at a very decent price range

my thoughts exactly - i just traded my re400 for a pair of re-262 , having an arrow amp i really wanted to try again the 262 amped

272 is pure sonic love , for me at least.

up there with the etys?  in my opinion they demolished the ER4's.  no "it was close," the 272 just wiped the floor with them acoustically.  the RE-0 was closest to the ER4 and they still beat them.  HiFiMAN imo have made some absolute stunners, its just a shame so many are now discontinued.

why thank you good sir.

hey mark (or anyone else here) , help me out here pleae

my black(normal wear) extension cable seems to be malfunctioning (losing sound)

i know the white cable switches channels (for over the ears use) , so i tried the the grey cable (blanaced) and i think it works fine , just like the black cable did.

is it so , or it's just my idea ? i am not using any balanced ground amp , a normal j3/arrow amp setup

can it be that in non-balanced mode/setup , the grey cable works like a black one ?

Listen to something with no extension, when a sound happens in only one ear pause and rewind a bit then listen again with the extension and you'll find out for yourself :)

i think it sounds fine with the grey cable , so maybe this is like a cable that works both ways. normal with normal sources and balanced with balanced sources

damn , it may even sound better than the black one (ok this is probably my mind playing tricks on me)

i emailed also hifiman , i mean maybe someone else has a broken black cable and he could use the grey one.

I used to use mine with a Mini^3. Fed via my computer or iPod. Line out i mean. They were the most natural sounding pair of IEMs. Are there any other IEMs close to the RE272? coz i have read that the Highs on RE600 are not as good as on RE272. I also have read that RE0's treble performance wasnt even met by RE272. It was the perfect amount of Bass. No leaks here and there, with the Mini^3 it used to be tight and totally controlled. The Soundstage wasnt as big, but still, perfect was the presentation of the IEMs. Its really bad that they stopped RE272 production. I dont even have an idea where to go next.

Regards

It's just a wire, you wont do any damage using the grey cable.  The only problem could be them not working in some sources due to the position of the ground pin in the plug but if it works be happy :)

i wrote on the Hifiman FB page that they should bring back the 272

I find it funny how such a kickass iem went by relatively unnoticed by the public , especially when most reviews were praising it.

ah , consumers....

closest i think would be the CK100 judging by the CK10.

as for the grey cable, if the pins fit your source then yeah it could work fine. if its working for you then good but personally id have just used the white.

I emailed customer service and since the 272 is still under warranty i assume i will get a replacement cable

the grey cable works fine i think , but i want to have the black just in case.

@Proedros,

To me, the RE0 were very popular compared to the RE272.

But i have read, people used to return the pieces after not being satisfied by the amount of bass....might even be that we people, who love the RE272 are actually a Minority.

They should bring it back, infact keep it in continuous production in small numbers. It really is a very respectable IEM at a very respectable cost. I don't know how much better the CIEM market gets from sound point of view. If my RE0 RE-ZERO and RE272 hadn't died, i would have been a collector. I remember CeliOS had said that the RE0s were one pair of IEMs that had let you know how the Source actually sounds. But detail retrieval was best for the RE272.

They should bring it back into production, but what use would it be if people don't buy that stuff anymore?

Regards
