HiFiMAN RE-272 Review - Page 11

Ok after 2 hours of listening it's time for my initial impressions

I will also be breaking them in with dewaver's brown-pink-white noise files

For now I love how they sound thank god they don't have the treble roll-off witnessed by 262 that kept me from really loving them  - and with my arrow amp bass set to 1 , the low bass stops being a concern

I don't know if it's because of their synergy with my J3 but i don't find them too trebly , they sound just great

If you liked the 252 sound , i think you will like the 272 as well

Really happy i got them i am back to iem sonic bliss land  L3000.gif

They are a bit trebly with a shallow fit. The upper mids also stand out with a shallow fit. With a deep fit, they are quite neutral with no real emphasis any where and nice, deep bass.

atm i am using the medium fake sony hybrids - at some point i will also try the medium stock bi-flanges that are supposed to improve the soundstage

2nd day they got even better - like i said in another 272 revies , these seem like they benefit a lot from break-in time

Does anyone know which Comply Foam eartips work with these?  I ordered these today, trying to get the correct Comply tips before they arrive!

Thanks

large fake sony hybrid tips seem to be a nice choice too

i just got my eq5 and i am curious how these two stand face-to-face with each other

edit (no need for a 2nd post)

I am currently testing listening 272 and e-q5 and i am very happy having two top-tier universal to choose from

It's still too early to make a final decision , both sound fine (i am no expert i just translate what myears tell me)

I may like the 272 a bit more so far (better clarity) but like i said too early to say something final

I am happy with both btw (and i know that in a few months upgraditis will be kicking at my door)

I really like the 272 so far

they are easily the best RE-xxx hifiman has released so far

and i think it is better than my e-q5 at least i get myself going for the 272 way more often

I am loving my RE272 too.

having both , i think the 272 are better.

the eq-5 are good ,very good and maybe a tad more musical but when i put the 272 they seem to sound 'better'

yes they sound more analytical , so i am glad i can afford both and switch between the 2

both are great IEMs though - it's just that having both beats having 1 of the 2

nice review! specially the "Highs" section! just to be sure, you compared the RE272 to a well-amped RE0 and ER4, right ?

i think i am convinced for good - these are some great IEMs

thank you hifiman for a stellar product

let's hope that you don't release a 282 soon - our wallets need a rest

Great ,great IEM.

Cheers

Can't say with certainty whether or not there's better, but different, yes. In other words, where the RE272 may be the preferred choice for one listener, there are certainly others that may be the more preferred choice for another listener. With the price in mind, of the ones I've owned, a few that come to mind would be the DBA-02, Miles Davis Trumpet, FX700 (street price considered), EX600, GR07, RE252, ER4S, and, of course, the Ortofon's.

why isn't anyone talking about these babies here ?

i am surprised (in a bad way)

then again , people started talking about the 262 1 year after they came out so who knows , maybe 2013 everyone will drool over these....

They have been talked about constantly since they came out last summer?

In my 9 years here it was by far the #1 most dissapointing IEM I have ever purchased.  I found it only represented one frequency very well (upper treble).  That was basically it.  Granted I could not get a decent fit but the sound was so far from acceptable, burn in wasn't even an option.   Very thin sounding.  They made Etys sound like Atrios on bass boost.   It just wasn't for me.
