Hi all i have a budget of 500 SGD and this is my above 100 dollars headphones i ever got. I want a good over the ear headphones that are comfortable, preferably portable(if not its fine). I listen to Avenged Sevenfold,Marilyn Manson and Element Eighty.

I am eyeing the Sennheiser HD 598(399) it looks good and had pretty good reviews from CNET and all.

Thanks.

I would say Grado. Go to Jaben or Stereo and try them out yourself, and get the ones more suited for your taste.

Grado's earcups look small in the pictures.

Most Grados are big enough to become circumaurals if you purchase the right pads.

I see,but what is your opinion on the Sennhiser HD598 ?

Another vote for Grado.

The HD-598 isn't as good as the HD-600 or HD-650. They leave you in mid-fi purgatory. Marginally better than entry-level headphones yet not as good as the top end. They usually cost about the same as buying a used pair of top end cans, like the HD-600. I see them as a stopover before eventually buying the top end, so they just make the journey more expensive. If you like them, you'll end up with a HD-600 or HD-650 eventually. Might as well just get a used HD-600 and be done with it.

Grado. Watch the FS forum for a used RS-1, It may be a little above your budget but not much. The RS-1 is a fantastic Rock headphone and does other genres well too. The RS-1 has been my "go to" phone for 3 years.

They a great for rock, but I use mine for Jazz. Instrument timbres sound very real and textured thats why guitar, sax etc sound so good on them
