And for $50+/-, I can't recommend an 18V 4556 op amp cmoy any higher. It's my best friend. I have yet to find a headphone it isn't utter magic with.

Good plan, but Mods can be scary for first time buyers! Who don't have extra money to replace thier broken un modded headphones >.>

Also there is the Byerdyanmic COP, that has "adjustable Bass" for around $140 or so and you can choose if you want a BASS head can or a nice Byer can with modest Bass. A good value imo

I hear you. I was pretty scared before I started but that was my first mod and it seemed easy enough. And the result is absolutely amazing! They're pretty good cans right out of the box. Stuff some extra padding under the cushions and the sound stage opens up a LOT and smooths out the highs a little. But opening the cups takes it to another level.  ...And for only $50–60 (depending on what materials you use), I can't recommend these more.

+1

Used the Alessandro MS-1 for a few years, was a very engaging headphone... never felt the need to upgrade (for a while)
