Recommendations? $1k budget for a sound system - Page 2

well have you thought if you want it just for music or for music and tv/films?

if its just for music then 2.0 but otherwise maybe 5.1.  its 1k so your not going to get perfection and realistically its only going to be with you for a few years anyway so i dont think it matters if you go right to 5.1 rather than 2.0 then upgrade later.

also do you want big or small, given your age your likely to move frequently (studently life) so maybe some little things like maybe KEF eggs?  sure not going to be worlds best for music but will be reasonble and give you 5.1 and not entirely fill your room with nothing but speakers.

There is a lot of good speakers out there.

I think what's good is do some searches and read peoples thoughts on the sound of different speakers and see if it matches your taste.

If there is a store by you go and try out some speakers bring a cd with your own favorites and different genres.

I got some PSB T6 towers and I'm absolutely blown away and very happy with them.

I'm planning on selling off my headphone gear and just keeping 1 pair of headphones.

Is that 1k total or just 1k on speakers?

The stores I was going to buy from only sell B&W,PSB,Monitor Audio,NHT,Mordaunt Short,Martin Logan,Boston Acoustics,Energy,Thiel (very expensive) so I guess that's a few companies to know of or look into.

Goto some online stores and know the prices and get model #s to do searches if you want.

I don't have a lot of experience but I think towers have better sound, fuller more texture/detail,better bass etc. But bookself speakers suit smaller rooms better.

So it kinda depends on your listening area.

Also look at Totem speakers, great looking speakers. I used to drool over them, and than i got an amazing deal on vintage B&W speakers on craigslist. Also crinacle, what type of amp does your dad have? Will he let you have it?
