The Beginning of a new era. (Newbie Advice Needed)

Well, I have lurked these seas for months and only now have I come out of the waters.

I am a student studying in Sheffield (UK) and having been brought up by a heavy audiophile dad, I can say I truly appreciate music, in all it's forms.

This road goes down a very expensive path, I know that, but am willing to forfeit whatever my wallet has to this musical beast. (as a student, I'm always sorry about my wallet)

Anyways, the first bit of equipment I purchased was the E7/E9 combo, very cliché entry level equip for a student, but satisfied the needs. I didn't have my own pair of headphones as I was saving up for the DT990 (600 ohm version) so I used a friends Ultrasone Pro 650s for the mean time, and whilst I had them, I felt the bass was very overpowering, and didn't have that tight deep impact I wanted in a pair of headphones...which is also why I decided not to get the DT990's.

To the point now: I am back home visiting during the summer and my dad ordered the Beyerdynamic T70 for me, which is very new, and I took the leap of faith and decided to get them. Since I have heard the T1's at an audio exhibition and loved them, I'm hoping this Tesla pair gives me a similar feeling to the T1's (obviously not as good as price would be the issue)

I'm wondering, just hypothetically, that my E7/E9's won't pair well with the T70's. With a budget of roughly £300-400 ($500-650). And my laptop being a primary source, and perhaps the Fiio X3.

Since I'm very new to this, I know the Fiio E9 can drive 600Ohms very well. The T70 is 250 Ohms:

What DAC/AMP, either combo or separate, would be perfect for my needs?

Musical tastes involve:

50% (Pink Floyd/Led Zep/Iron Maiden/ AC/DC / Beatles/ Clapton/ Hendrix ..etc. - Classic 60's-80's Rock/ Psychedelic Rock

20% (Jazz (primarily Female Jazz Vocals  Diana Krall, Jane Monheit, Christy Barton, Jazz instrumental[At one point thought AKG

K701 was perfect but the one I auditioned was paired with a $900 amp and would definitely have a massive impact on the jazz

        heard] Blues and Soul.

20% Trance music

5% Techno/electronic

5% Rap/Hip hop

Thanks in Advanced,

New poster, long time music lover (not as long as some here though)

P.S - Ideally would like to buy them in England/Europe, but if required would order them in from elsewhere.

Hello & Welcome,

I'm sorry... but what are your needs exactly? You want it to be a mobile or desktop setup?

If you're looking for a desktop setup this could be fun: http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/FUN/FUNEN.htm

Or this: http://www.littledot.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=818&sid=a7580b8fb287b0436a1a79bdb353da6d

These guys sell some stuff in the UK: http://www.ampcity.co.uk/

Would be used only as a desktop rig.

For the $500-650, what's the best DAC and Amp I could get that's got every bang for the buck?

I've not heard the unit but the Pico dac/amp combo has had good reviews from the gang.

Thanks for the reply. How much of a step up is the Pico relative to the Fiio E7/E9 combo. Would $650 cover individual Amp and DAC?

Check out some threads on the unit for comparisons by putting Pico in the search engine.

I'll check out the Yulong D100, seems quite good. What about Tube amps?
