Emu0404 usb about to die soon... any new alternatives?

Hi,

 

My Emu0404 USB is about to die soon (the well known problem of "just power LED goes on" started to show up..). 

 

Are there any new alternatives to it? Or is it still has the best value in sub-$300 category?

 

I am using it as a link from Mac to hi-fi stereo amp/receiver, so the headphone amp/recording capabilities are of no importance..

Come on head-fiers, recommend something ... or should I get new EMU0404 ?

Just don't want to pay for recording / headphone out if I don't have to..

Actually looks like in this price range  it's either Zero DAC or EMU 0404 USB or Konnekt 6/8 or Saffire... 

 

and I will need coax for Zero to get 192k... 

 

?

New 0404? Don't you mean 0406?

Nevermind, I thought you were saying that there was a new 0404, when you said you could get another 0404 :)

 

Could you elaborate a bit on that power on issue?

Yeah basically when I turn my EMU0404 USB on sometimes (like 2 out 3) only green light goes on (which means that the USB connection works I guess - but not sure).. then I have to pull power cable in different directions and EMU finally turns on completely.. It's not the cable issue because the power supply is brand new (just got a linear one from Jameco)..

 

So it's something with power section - I opened EMU looked inside, couldn't see anything unusual so I am stuck in this limbo for now..

 

Also this issue gets mentioned here and on some other forums...

 

My EMU is like 3 years old though (but all 3 years were spent on a shelf..).
