After messing around with various Linux distros on my netbook, and having (mostly) seamless experiences with each of my DACs, I was surprised to read that many people here have issues with pops/clicks etc when trying to use a USB DAC with a laptop. Surprised, that is, until I installed XP on one of the partitions on my hard drive and tried to set it up for music and movies. Even with ASIO4All and the appropriate Winamp plugin, it was a very ordinary experience.
Anyhoo, I'm currently downloading the 11.04 release of Ubuntu Studio ('Natty Narwhal' - who comes up with these names ?) : hope to have some feedback on Monday. I'm sure I could sort audio on XP, but I cant be bothered - most have moved onto Win7 now and XP makes sense only for the fact that you can run productivity apps smoothly on lower end hardware.
