How to replace AKG K518 headphone plug

Hi

 

I am new here and am looking for some advice to help fix the snapped headphone jack on my AKG K518 headphones. 

I have some experience in fixing other electronic stuff but never anything audio related.

 

At my disposal, I have a soldering iron, some silver audio grade solder, and a neutrik 3.5mm stereo jack (NYS231). I have cut the broken jack off the headphones and stripped back a few centimeters of the plastic insulation. Beneath the There is a white insulated wire, a red insulated wire, and loads of really thin metal and plastic hair-like strands.

 

From a n00b point of view, my guess would be that the two insulated wires are the two right and left channels meaning the metal and plastic bristle like strandy things must be the ground????? (this could be very wrong).

 

 

any advice on how to proceed/where the wires need to go would be really appreciated.

 

i haven't taken any photos but can do if it helps

recable them fully, the stock cable is really thin and flimsy.

Just worked on the K518 recently.

 

Left (stereo) Red wire - Top part of 3.5 mm plug.
Right (stereo) White wire - middle part of plug.
ground - copper exposed wire - bottom part of plug.

Burn enamel off and solder to plug.
