Charging Cowon D3 with USB cable and iPod power adaptor to mains

I recently bought the Cowon D3 from AdvancedMP3 and I was reading that the Cowon D3 can be charged with the USB cable and a power supply adaptor connected to the mains. However, I have tried this without success. Every time I try it the screen goes crazy and I cannot switch the display off for it to charge. I accidentally left my D3 mains adaptor at home but I have it's USB cable.

Any ideas?

Hmm and I thought maybe someone on this forum would of known considering it is supposed to be a forum dedicated to DAPs.
