Advice on CDP connectivity

I have an old Yamaha CDC-765 CD player that I bought 10yrs ago and never used. I was thinking of hooking it up to my Headroom Desktop Amp, but recent threads have me second guessing the best method of connectivity

Should I use the optical port or RCA jacks? I'm confused which one uses the CDP's DAC and which would use the Desktop Amp DAC.

Thanks.

If you connect the optical out from the Yamaha to the optical in on the headroom DAC/Amp this will use the DAC in the Headroom. If you connect the RCA outputs from the Yamaha to the RCA inputs on the Headroom you are using the Yamaha's DAC.
