Sennheiser HD650 "Veil" Hardly Noticeable...

Just picked these headphones up and with minimal burn in I can easily and clearly say that these headphones have no veil.  They are very detailed, moreso than my Alessandro MS-1s.

Could be my DAC/amp combo [Musical Fidelity V-DAC/Matrix M-Stage].... but to any of you out there with reserves of getting these headphones because of "veil"...don't let this myth hold you back!

You ain't comparing the HD650 to a more detailed pair of headphones. If they are more detailed than the MS-1, I won't be surprised at all, but compared to more detailed pairs, you might hear the "veil" they are talking about. It is not a myth that the HD650 is not god of details, but by no means it is bad sounding at all.

You are entitled to your assessment but others have their own . Audio is a very personal hobby where every set up is different and every one has his or her own preference in the reproduction of sound of the same piece of equipment.

Having said that, your title thread is kind out of line. Respect others as you want them to respect you. " Wrong"  is not a good adjective on your thread title.

I think the term veiled is a bit incorrect and unnecessarily derogatory.  The sonic presentation of the HD650 is more mid centric with a weighty low-end and as such the high frequencies are not quite as prominent.  This gives the HD650 a more euphonic, musical presentation.   No question it's a darker more laid-back presentation, but musical details are all present and accounted for.

You need to review the history of the HD650 threads - 5+ years back, or so.

The term "veil" was used in reference to the "original version" of the HD650, not the "new version."

And... yes... the "original version" most certainly have a very obvious "veil" (distant / dark / muffled sound - as if through a "veil").

That's quite obviously why Senn upgraded the drivers to the "new version" - which, is noticeably much faster, brighter, clearer, etc.

I agree, they're not at all veiled. I really like their laid back sound. I ordered a second pair yesterday.

Okay, so I do apologize for the use of "very wrong", as everyone is entitled to their own opinion.  My bad there.

Anywho, I am going to adventure into something like the K701s and come back to this thread later.  Maybe then I will say they're "veiled".

No sweat, my friend. U do not have to apologize. Just a friendly reminder just in case some one wants to draw you into a heated discussion. Happy listening. Enjoy your HD 650.

Thank you. I have the new version of the HD 600 and the HD650 ( there is a thread about this new vs. old models ) and there is no veil, no syrup kind of sound .

The "veil" depends on the amp you're using. The HD-650 is picky about what you plug it into. And, yes, I had a HD-650 manufactured in '05. Plug it into a good amp and there was no veil.

Any Veil with the Burson HA160

I've never heard this "veil" even if I ran mine straight from my D2+...

I'm thinking of getting HD650's.  I was hoping for laid back sound.  Not too syrupy but not bright either.  I'm coming from D2000's which can be sibilant at times with poorly mastered recordings.

Sibiliance is of no concern with my setup.
