Biggest (trans)portable rig you've taken on the road ?

The Sony MDR-7509HD and an iPod. Sometimes, just a Shure e3c and an iPod.

They're plenty good enough and I don't take portable stuff terribly seriously. Neither do I take car audio seriously - I run the stock Pioneer system in the car.

I prefer to indulge in high-end audio at home, where I can relax and truly enjoy it. Tubes and turntables are difficult to take along. And, preferably, where I can give Mai Tai bellyrubs - I wouldn't take her on a train or airplane, either.

I have two H120 players modified with the 32gb CF card drive and one H140. All 3 are Rockboxed.    I also own the 16gb HM-602.  While having a very good DAC, the 602 suffers from a rather cumbersome interface, short battery life and runs very warm.

IMO, the H120/140 remain a state-of-the-art DAP.  Having optical, line-out and headphone outputs provides a flexibility of output not shared by any other player.  With the CF mod and the options offered by Rockbox, they are without peer among players.  I use my H120's as the source for all of my Topkit testing.

John Amato has about 7 of them in various states of modification.   I believe he put a 160gb drive in one of his H140s

Hello, you have my attention. I would like to get a link for more information please. Are these mods diy or special order?

Ron, I would dearly love to hear the H140 alongside the QA350, particularly now that QLS have beefed the amp section, but as soon as I contemplate spending some of my newfound wealth (just got my tax refund) on portable kit, a little voice in my hard starts chanting 'Anedio D1 ! Anedio D1 !'.

I wont curse project86 for planting that seed in my fertile imagination, but he makes a compelling argument for a desktop one-box (+laptop) solution. Its about as 'transportable' as that 15lb rig we discussed earlier (!), but once you dragged it out of your suitcase at the hotel ......

If I'm driving, I have packed the home rig for a weekend trip. On a plane, I've taken the lappy using the Xin portable as a pre. w/powered speakers to Korea.

I regularly travel with my H140 and ibasso D12 bundled together with IEM's.  This arrangement is huge as compared to the average ipodder crowd expectations.  If I'm going somewhere for a longer period or time, I'll bring the H140 with a DB-1 and SR71B along with a set of Grados (RS-1 or HF-2).

In my expereince, I've had better luck taking my rigs apart through airport security.  Whenever everything is together, they just can't pass on that short optical cable that connects the rig together.

Wolfen, where did you get the short optical cable? I'm about to get a DAC/amp combo for my H140 and can't find a cable shorter than a half meter.

Thanks

To estreeter/others:  In regards to the H140's performance....the nice thing is that it has so far been limitless.  As better DAC's come out, the H140 only gets better due to it's primary function as only a transport in these types of rigs.
