Best 0.5m Coaxial Cable Under $75 (New Or Used)

I'm in the market for a Coaxial cable. This cable should at least equal the sound quality of a glass TOSLink cable. Does anybody have first-hand experience with such a cable?

I don't think you will find ANY coax that will compete with glass optical.

One that I am atleast very happy with is the Apogee Wyde Eye. $37, and beats most other coax if you look at what people have said on audioreview.

Whilst reading on these forums, I've never read of many that even reach glass toslink let alone surpass it and none at that price point either.

Headphile has SPDIF digital silver RCAs for $25. I can vouch for their silver analog ICs. They sound fantastic.

Blue Jeans Cables offers several types of coxial digital cables, one of which is the Belden 1695A. Over at Audio Asylum the Belden 1695A is the undisputed choice of coax for DIY digital cables. It has teflon dielectric, double shield, solid core copper conductor. The sound of digital cables made of 1695A is fantastic! Bolder Cables uses this cable in their digital cable. Also, Blue Jeans terminates the cable with what is arguably the best RCA terminations for digital cables which is the Canare true 75 ohm RCAP RCA's. Some people feel that for digital audio you MUST use Canare's. The prices Blue Jeans offers is amazing. Talk about a budget component alert, these are a major steal for what you get. Here's a link to their pricing, you can custom order any length and though .5 meter is not listed it looks it will be around $15!!!

Just a suggestion anyway. I have the Glass Toslink as well and it's tough to compare the two because of the different interface of coaxial and Toslink. I definitely like the Glass Toslink as well but the Belden 1695/Canare cables are very good too.

Iron_dreamer replaced his Belden analog ICs with Headphile silvers. Big difference. I'm sure the same holds true for digital.

Er...why would you guess that? If I am not mistaken his Belden IC's were 89259 coaxial, weren't they? Yeah, those do suck. The Belden 1695A coaxial for *digital cable* is completely different, no correlation can even be made, it's a completely different thing here. Belden twisted pair IC's using cores of 89259 and 89248 blows away a straight Belden 89259 only cable, no comparison. But digital, completely different.

Only one way to know for sure, try it and see! Headphile has a 15 day tryout period. For $25 it is not much of a gamble in any case.

Nothing competes with glass TOSLink?! I find that hard to believe! The reason I included this stipulation was because I am still using the glass TOSLink, in a different part of the 'chain' that is my system.

Sonica (to be upgraded) -> Finest Glass TOSLink -> Monarchy DIP Classic -> (coaxial / digital cable) -> modified Sony SACD/CD/DVD receiver (to be upgraded)

I am interested in all of the suggestions so far (Headphile, Apogee, and Blue Jeans) but everybody seems to feel glass TOSlink is far superior! What if I increase my price range?

One more question - I know there is an (arguable) increase in sound quality from RCA to XLR, but what about from Coax to AES/EBU? Would there be a noticable difference?

Ah, I see what kind of connection you are using now. Mine is very similar. USB > Sonica > Glass Toslink > Monarchy DIP > Belden 1695A/Canare from Blue Jeans > Ack! dAck! DAC. Now, I bought a M-Audio Revolution PCI card which has a coaxial digital output and then picked up a long Belden 1695A/Canare cable from Blue Jeans, from the Revolution's coaxial output to the DIP to investogateif that was a better way to get digital from my computer to my DIP/DAC. I came to the conclusion I liked the USB/Sonica/Glass Toslink over the Revo/Belden coax/DIP by a small margin. I could have lived with either way it was so close but the Toslink route seemed a bit better in a few areas.

I guess I am confused at where you will use this digital coaxial cable? If you are talking about from the DIP to your DAC and you want to make sure you are at least at the level of the glass Toslink then my recommendation is for the Belden 1695A/Canare route. I once owned a $250 digital coax from FMS called the Dataline Digital and I acquired a Belden 1695A/Canare cable at some point and found them to be REAL close in performance. I've owned some "decent" coaxial digital cables that just don't stack up, that don't use Canare RCA's and use something like a Canare coax cable which is inferior to the 1695A - inferior dielectric is a big reason. I know it seems odd that Blue Jeans prices are so cheap you have to wonder about quality. The guy makes very little for one thing and he has no store front/advertising/employees to pay for. Plus, the Canare connectors are specialized crimp on type that a lot of tweakers swear by as being the very best connection for digital audio transmission. A special Canare brand crimp tool must be use and they are not cheap at all. In fact, Blue Jeans uses their own crimper/cutter that is computer controlled! Very cool. Also, they do offer 30-days money back.

Are looking for an alternate route of getting the digital from your computer to your DIP that requires coax, similar to my Revolutuion scenario? Is is this just from the DIP to DAC?

Ah, thanks for the many suggestions. Yes, I'm just looking for a coaxial connection between the DIP and the DAC. I don't I would be looking into a coaxial connection between my PC and the DIP anytime soon - after all, glass TOSLink sounds so good. Based on your recommendations, I'd probably pick up that Blue Jeans cable (and maybe the Headphile cable). After all, they both have pretty generous return policies.

Yeah, exactly, go for it, both are affordable and have the return policy and all. Post your impressions!

Stereovox HDXV digital cable this is the same cable as the x2-60 cable that replaced the kimber d60 cable I use x2-60 in my referance setup 100.00 for 1 meter new.
$100 for the reference cable is equal to 4 Headphile cables. I find it hard to believe something would be 4 times better.

bozebuttons, have you ever compared the Stereovox HDXV to anything else, like the Belden 1695A that was mentioned?
