Hey guys, I'm currently thinking of getting my first portable rig. I listen to music outside almost all the time since I'm always out and about. Currently, I own the Shure SRH 840 and the Shure SE 425 and my source is an Android phone. I need a new music player because music sucks out the battery from my phone. I'm a Mac user (not by choice) and most of the music in my library is on ALAC.I was thinking to get an amp and a new music player.
I'm sitting on the fence between the iPod Classic 160GB and the Cowon J3. The iPod Classic 160 GB would be more convenient for me because I use iTunes and it has the capacity to hold all my music, but I read that the Cowon J3 trumps it in SQ, which is really important to me. However, I also read that with iPod I could get an LOD. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've heard an LOD is used to bypass the amp in the music device and direct the signal to the portable amp, giving much better quality. Is that true? And can a Cowon J3(If it's necessary) use an LOD too?
Another thing I'd like to ask is what portable amp will give the best synergy with the Shure SRH 840 and/or the SE 425? I like a more balanced and neutral sound but perhaps something that could give the SE 425 a little more oomph in bass.
All help will be much appreciated :)
