Upgrading from Bose Companion 5 to Audioengine A2

I'm considering upgrading from Bose Companion 5 to Audioengine A2, but I have one concern that I would appreciate your input on.

 

Bose Companion 5 process sound internally via its own audio processing unit. With the Audioengine A2, I would be processing the sound through my laptop's integrated sound. So although the Audioengine A2 are higher quality speakers, I'm wondering how the two will compare if I run the Audioengine A2 without a sound card.

Should be still be a good listen. The A2's are still entry level speakers, probably wont be that critical without a sound card.
