I found that bass-light R10s like a warm, lush amp.
Somehow (unexpectedly), they sound best with my (solid state) Rudistor RP010B as opposed to the tube amps I have tried (although I have not tried many, so take that into consideration here).
Furthermore, I add to the mix a Shunyata Anaconda Helix powercord on the Rudistor to warm things up some more.
There has been some buzz in the forums here about a Rudistor-R10 synergy if you do some deep digging here.
I actually had a conversation with Ray Samuels a few years ago where he offered (very kindly--Ray is a great guy) to
modify my RSA tubed amp to warm it up so it would be tailored to my R10s. (I did not go ahead with it for various reasons, as I wanted to venture into other phones.)
It's not that bass-light R10s are bright, but they are revealing and easily pick up digital glare upstream (as it seems to me from my experiments),
to the point where an SACD version of an album will sound glorious and balanced but the CD version will be sibilant and have glare.
The Boston, Cindy Lauper She's so Unusual, and assorted Rolling Stones albums exhibit this.
