Recommended PCI-E 1x sound card

Thread Starter

Hi all,

As the title, looking for a new 1x card out of the options below. Setup will be Sound card -> Burson Audio HA-160 -> HD555's (will be upgrading those later on).

Usage priority is Games > Movies > Music

Here are the options available to me:

ASUS Xense Premium Gaming Audio Set (Will still use the 555's)

ASUS Xonar D2X

ASUS Xonar Essence STX

Auzentech X-Fi Bravura 7.1

Auzentech X-Fi HomeTheater HD

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD

Thanks

I can only speak to the Asus cards. The STX is not intended as a "gaming" sound card. It's intended purpose is to be a very high quality, customizable, consumer audiophile / headphone card. Since it looks like you are mostly a gamer, if you are willing to go PCI, then the Xonar ST (with better jitter control and some say better sound) and optional 7.1 expansion card (for games/movies) might, IMO, be a better choice for gaming-movies-music in the Asus sound card family.

Taking in account the priorities you've set and the gear you're planning on using, the X-Fi Titanium HD is without a doubt your best bet. It's the best gaming card there is, with SQ on the same level of Xonar Essence ST/STX (Asus' top tier cards), and is customizable as well.

I will recommend to try X-Fi Titanium HD or D2X for gaming and both overall performance is good for music and movies.
