Replacement Pads and Cable for Shure SRH440s?

I just bought a pair of Shure SRH440s today and I must say, I'm impressed.

I read that the SRH840 pads are actually a better fit and compliment the sound of the 440s better than the stock pads. But for $20, are they really worth it to a nonaudiophile? So far the stock pads are comfortable to me.

Also the coiled cable is the only con of the 440s for me. I want to make these cans as portable as possible, and its hard with a giant heavy coil cable. According to my research, the only replacement coil is the HPASCA1. The only problem is that it's 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) long. I was thinking I could just roll up part of the HPASCA1 cable into a ring and tie it with a rubber band or tie of some kind. With this solution, I think I can actually walk around with these comfortably and fit my iPod in my pocket without too much strain on the jack.

Do we have any 440 owners in the house?

You can always recable them.

My soldering skills are nonexistent. I would rather just roll them up so I could have the distance if I needed it. Rolling up the cable wouldn't damage the cable, would it?

I can always do a recable for you, let me know, cheaper than you think.

Peter at DHC can also build one. I have a few of his cable, and their very neutral and fine looking cablesbeerchug.gif

Thanks but no thanks on the rewiring offers.

Does anyone else have any input on the pads or cable?
