HD 580 replacement cables - maybe use HD 650 cable?

The direct replacement cable for my HD 580 are $34 from Sennheiser, whereas the compatible HD 650 cable is only $19. Trouble is, I primarily use my headphones with a 1/8" source and the 650 cable terminates 1/4". Now, using a 1/4" -> 1/8" adapter isn't a huge ordeal since I don't use them with portable sources, and the cable itself is a little thicker which will help with durability. Does anyone have experience with this kind of adapter setup?

It will work but in my own experience the connection can get a little loose, because of the weight of the huge plug plus the adapter on the little 1/8" jack. I'd prefer to use a 1/8" plug in this situation.

using the 1/4 to 1/8 adapters feel a little hokey to me so feel free to use one of these or something

The wobble might create a little play with your source depending on what it is and what height your jack is at. Obviously higher is worse lol.
