I have a pair of Denon AH-D2000's and I would definitely say they are awesome for gaming. You obviously don't get a great sense of direction since it's stereo but I often hear things before my friends. "Anyone else hear that Witch ahead? Well there is one. Yep, told you." "I think I hear someone behind us..." always a good time.
As for the bass, I used to have an issue with Battlefield: Bad Company 2 where it would reset the app-specific volume on startup. I didn't notice it once and I had the volume louder than I should have. As I was running through a group of buildings a tank rolled by, it sounded amazing. Then it blew up and my headphones shook.
Yeah, these puppies are worth every penny.
Of course they don't have a microphone and at this point I think it's a cardinal sin to game without one if you're doing co-op. I just ordered a Zaleman mic (clips onto the cable) so we'll see how that goes. It should arrive tomorrow, actually.
By the way, if you are specifically looking for gaming, for the same price of the Denons you can get a set of Astro Gaming A40's. While the overall sound quality probably won't be as good as the Denons when it comes to music, they're a proper surround-sound headphone with a nice built-in microphone. I'm actually thinking I'll get them at some point myself to use as my gaming headset if the attachable mic situation I'll have going on turns out to not be ideal.
