Headphone recommendation

I'm looking into buying a new pair of headphones for around $117. I mainly listen to hip hop / rock but I also listen to jazz, blues, and classìcal. I'll mainly be using these headphones on a samsung galaxy S / computer which means I'll need decent looking cans as I'll be using them in public often.

Thanks

I'm a noob but I too was looking for something similar and eventually was steered toward the Audio Technica ATH-M50 (very popular for the price range) and have been satisfied so far (3 days of use). If you do a search on them, whether here on the forums or just Google in general, you will see nothing but good comments/reviews.

Heya,

Sounds like you need closed headphones with low impedance. Try the `for sale' forum. You can score more headphone for the money that way and it will already be burned in for you. Great way to start the game. Otherwise, I'll point you towards the AudioTechnica M50 ($116 new) or if you can't get those, check out the Sennheiser HD448's ($99 new). Well in your price range. Great sound response, good bass, they look nice. I would simply look to get some HD438 cloth pads to replace the leather pads because wearing non-cloth while out and about results in sweaty ears.

Very best,

+1 for M50. You seem to require an all-rounder with a slight bass bump for hip-hop.

just a tip, if your phone is rooted, run voodoo kernel or get the voodoo control plus from the android market (its only a dollar i think), its worth it, helps drive your headphones with an option for bass boost.

agreed voodoo makes a HUGE difference! Makes a high end dap.
