I just discovered my grandfather used to have a great stereo system he bought about 40 years ago. now the speakers are ruined, but he still has his amp/radio, the fisher 800C (which has the same amp as the 500C), and my grandma on the other side of the family has a pair of Tannoy E11s shes not really using, so I was wondering if you guys know enything about these and if theyre any good.

Thanks!

Be Nice take them a treat or what they enjoy the most now and say I'd like to keep this equipment in the family! Then Grab it and growl as they say.....Plus anything can be fixed or used as a 2nd/3rd system.......JMO

Grab them and then your grandfather and grandmother a gift in return.  All that stuff is vintage.

Ya I guess it doesn't matter to much if their good cause I'm not paying for them. My headphone system will probably stay my main system for a long time anyway.

The Fisher 800C is quite nice. It may need a refurb - at least replace the electrolytic caps in the power supply and possibly the rectifier bridge. If you want to go whole hog, recap it and replace all the resistors. The resistors are probably out of tolerance and old caps will go sooner or later. Restored, the 800C will be excellent. It'd be worth it, too.

I don't know much about the Tannoy E11. Give them a listen.

Just curious, what are the "ruined" speakers? Refoaming old speakers is cheap and easy. It will require some time, but you might be able to resurrect them. Cosmetic issues can be dealt with, too. So what are they? They might be worth resurrecting.

But grab that Fisher. Even if you have to pay to restore it, it'll be cheaper than buying similar quality new or used.

Thanks for the input.

As for the old ruined speakers, my grandfather doesn't even have them anymore, so I can forget about those. But on the bright side a quick google search revealed that the Tannoys are 55-20k +- 3dB, so theyr probably prety good.
