I can't even think of a title

In a bit of a tricky situation here, I have a Jaben ES8 cable, which looks like this:

Not exactly a thick gauge, as you can see.

Anyways, the 3.5mm termination on it fell off and I need to replace it....

I'm looking at something like this:

(I mean just the silver termination, not the cable)

The dilemma I am facing right now is that the gauge of the Jaben cable itself is MUCH smaller than the diameter of the cable in the picture above of the switchcraft termination.

How would I go about reterminating? I'm thinking of using shrinkwrap, but I am insure of whether to put it inside(tucked under the jacket of the termination) or outside and over.

Any advice would be great.

The Switchcraft plug has to be clamped inside with a tool to give strain relief to the cable. You even could make it in this way but it would be better to use some shrinktube at the place you want to clamp it..

Better in all cases would be to use another plug like a Neutrik mini right angled..

But (I ve read it again) with the Sleeve and all you are fine with the Switchcraft. Just soldering and clamping..and some heatshrinktube

Thanks!

Which neutrik do you speak of? I still have yet to order a plug, so I could always set my sights on another. Is this it? http://www.neutrik.com/fl/en/audio/210_459854644/NTP3RC-B_detail.aspx

One more thing though, I found that the Jaben wires are a bit flimsy and tend to melt fairly easily, so it's quite a pain to solder with, what can I do to fix this? I'm thinking of wrapping the plastic bits with damp cloth or something of the sort to prevent melting while im soldering, but I'm not sure if it would work.

I ve spoke of this Neutrik plug but beside the wire you are talking it would be also shitty :) to solder the whole stuff.

Soldering is quite easy for me actually:

1) No fear

2) 300-350 °C

3) Solder with Pb

4) Fluxx

5) ready :)

Nevertheless I can send you my constructed HD-25 IC with either 3.5 / 6.35 male plug and 3.5 female plug..

Yeah, the Jaben was never really a "quality" cable...

I'm pretty OK at soldering some things, just not tiny little cables.

You mean ship me the actual cable? That would be great, but how would I attach a HD-25 cable to my IEMs? and how much would you want for the cable?

Not the actual. I can ship a male/female cable for your needs made of the end of the HD-25 cable. It is a solution and okee IMO..

I dont want nothing, I want to be happy, thats all, except shipping costs
