$40k? Not worth it. That much would get you an older NSX, 308 or Esprit with money left over. I'd rather buy one of those and terrorize the back roads.

Yes, I've loved Ducatis and Moto Guzzis for some time. Great bikes. Though I'm hung up on reliability, I've been sorely tempted to pick up a 1990s Ducati just so I can have something tempremental. I love those bikes.

$120k entry fee? *choking sounds* No, I wouldn't do it. I'd spend $25k-$30k on an Lotus Esprit and spend three or four weeks driving the fun back roads across the country. It'd be more fun that way.

In terms of those really expensive rally races like the Gumball and Bullrun that people enter, its more of a status thing and it gives you a warm feeling inside cause most of the money goes to charity (usually).

I know in my city (it's kinda in the middle of nowhere, like a lot of Canada :)) the local airport usually opens up one of the runways once in a while for people to drag race on. And since I live in the middle of nowhere, booking it down the highway at 180 doesn't usually go noticed.

Sure, it's a status thing. Just like SCCA racing and a lot else.

I'm happy to open up on the back roads. Though I really enjoy taking the time to visit mom'n'pop restaurants, local junk stores, weird local musuems, dive bars, and oddball historical sites. A competition would only get in the way.
