Does anyone know what DAC is in this beautiful device? I can't find it anywhere. Nokia are generally very good when it comes to audio hardware in their high end phones. I hope I can replace my Sansa Clip+ with the N9 if the audio quality proves to be exceptional. Thanks

Actually,
I would like to know this to. I have an N9 and the sq is rather good, to my surprise.
No idea about the DAC. The sound quality is fine indeed, but the player app is the opposite of gapless, it even adds gaps between FLAC files.
Well, according to Wikipedia:
"The N9 is able to play back FLAC files, including high resolution ones (96 kHz/24 bit). Whether the actual output signal is downsampled to 44.1 kHz/16 bit or not is not known, however the Texas Instruments chip responsible for handling audio output is certainly capable of at least providing the 192 kHz signal."
I plan to get this phone once my Carrier brings it here (should be soon!!!!!!).
I love Nokias and hopefully this phone is kick-ass!!!

a TI chip, hmm... that means Burr-Brown technology inside. Not bad. Not bad at all!
Everybody at head-fi and other forums always jumps off their seats when a device has Wolfson components inside or something, but I find the devices with TI hardware (i.e. Burr-Brown) better sounding in general.
That explains why I enjoy the sound of my Nokia N9 rather much.
Great find!
Best regards,
ric.

Another N9 owner here. The sound quality is very good indeed, and seems to pair better with colder headphones/IEMs.
Dolby Surround was interesting too, but seems a little fatiguing for long listening sessions.

I have had both the N8 and N9 at one time and in the short time I've had both, the N8 seems to have a more accurate sound compared to the N9. Both have very good sound quality nonetheless.
Not sure what's in the N8.

I just got the N9. It seems that it supports 24bit 96khz hi res FLAC file. That is really unexpected.

The output measures damn well too, keeping pace with the iPhone 4 for the most part, save for the frequency response and IMD. And yes, I can confirm flac 24/96 is supported, though probably downsampled. Will do good to ask Nokia about it.
Also, fabulous design and buttery-smooth after flashing the software.
