I've read it. So the guy said that Burson is a chunk better than the Bifrost? But not THAAAT much, got it right?

I have the Lyr and I believe it's a keeper. I run the Audioengine D1 from my IMac USB port as a DAC and the RCA analog out from the Audioengine D1 connects to the Lyr. My headphones are the K702/HD598.
Would I see a huge improvement by switching to the Bifrost ? My finger are ready to click the " buy now" button from Schiit website but there is always a but...I need to know what do I gain by cough up another $500.00 ( well close to that with USB interface add-on).
I haven't heard the D1, but I found Bifrost a definite step up from my previous DACs (MSII, MSII+, HDP) IMO, etc. Not sure about the D1, but most audio gear tends to perform within it's price range. Not knowing how passionate you are about the K702's or the HD598's - I'd consider spending the money on some ortho's like the HE-500's. $699 new, but you can likely get a good used pair for a bit north of $500. In my experience, switching to orthos from dynamics brought a bigger improvement that a DAC upgrade. Just a thought.

I have a 2011 IMAC and emailed Jason to suggest an optical cable to connect the IMAC to my in-transit, non-USB Bifrost. Here is the link. I hope this helps others save a boatload of money and optimize their signal quality!
I hooked up my newly arrived Asgard to my IMAC with an inexpensive 3.5mm to RCA interconnect. Finally my Beyer DT-880s have come alive. I can't wait to add the Bifrost to the signal path.
best regards,
Keith
With all respect to Jason, I owned that cable and upgraded to a SilFlex glass for a noticeable sonic improvement. I'm not trying to drag this thread into the great 'cable' debate, but I will say that it's worth it to see if you hear a difference. Either way, sell the cable you don't want to keep.

+1 on the SiliFlex. I was skeptical but heard a difference.
Hmm. Tried to order one tonight but couldn't because it would lock up when trying to verify my address. Shot you guys an email. Looking forward to this DAC :D
edit:
Got the order sent :D

I'm purchasing one out of curiosity. I'll let the thread know what I think for what it's worth.
Just got mine. Wow. Just wow. It's my first DAC but WOW. I love this thing.

Hi all, this is my first post after long lurking. I was always afraid of this day :)
Jason isn't going to advise any other cable. I asked him prior to ordering and he said they use monoprice cables. I would think it's just not to hear the bickering of whether cables make a difference or not. I also upgraded to a Silflex cable, based upon your view, Misterrogers, I agree it's a noticeably better cable. I think it's nice to buy
a quality build of cable. Whether or not you agree with the difference they make.

I went with a Silflex also! Nice cable and not really expensive at all for what you get...
Cheers!

I'm pretty crazy about them as well. I have a headphone cable, interconnects between my Bifrost and Lyr, and a mini plug-to-RCA interconnect (for connecting my Cowon J3 DAP to the Lyr), all from Q-Audio.
So yeah, I guess I'm a fanboy.
Cheers!

News of note: Q-Audio is releasing cables in silk as well as cotton!
