I'm sure its been said but I hate it because it only works on Sony products and cost a lot more then SD its also generally slower then a good SD card.

@ani: fair enough. I have no problem with locked in storage, though.

As to memory sticks, they used to bother me when I had a Sony camera with a great lens because they cost so much. When for a while, they were the fastest small memory on the planet, I was kind of happy, but no longer. If they still in 2011 use memory sticks, there is a problem. Problem with MS? No. Problem with their usage still? Yes.

I had a Sony point-and-shoot that used Memory Sticks. They worked fine.

But I've since moved on to a Nikon DSLR and CF cards.

I used to like Sony, but lost enthusiasm when they tried to kill SACD. If Sony had handled the format better, we might all be enjoying great hi-rez recordings now. That might be partially fantasy (considering the Loudness War) but consider the way things could have been.

Considering proprietary lock-downs, BMW is the company I love to hate. Electronics turn over every couple of years, so waiting 12 months and going to a better format isn't a big deal. But vehicles are (to me, at least) long-term investments. If BMW was non-evil, and supposing they made reliable vehicles, I might buy one.

Sony has made so many remarkable things. In the late 80s they made these cassette tape players that were about the size of the cassette. They were really, really expensive but solid and sounded fantastic! They made really cool table top radios with three oval speakers and SRS processing. They made small portable B/W TVs which looked like walkmans and had great contrast. No one in the electronics field could come close to these dreamy strange/cool 1sts. Let us hope they start to grow to that level again! Some of my fiends love their new range of cameras so lets hope they are on track again.

I'm glad Sony is giving up on it.  I guess they have to as I think i read a few years ago they are losing money just to support the standard and put it in their devices along other standards.  It's not a question of hardware format, but of poor business practice and taking me for a ride.  I don't like feeling like I'm being taken for a ride by a company I give my money to. Just my personal feeling and interpretation.

Don't worry, I detest Apple far more.  They are a much larger offender than Sony w/ their onboard storage and semi-annual upgrade cycle.  Microsoft is also guilty w/ Window Phone 7 making your external card slaved to your phone and locking it to the device.  Ridiculous.

Nokia for the openness. But that will not be for long as Nokia is adopting  WP7 as their future OS.
